Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre operates a number of Small Options Homes in our community for both youth and adults.
  • Four Youth Small Options Homes
      (Youth 9-16 years old) on admission
  • Three Adult Small Options Homes
  • One eight bed Adult Developmental 3 Residence

    The Community Options Program provides a safe, stable, homelike environment for clients in the Western Region of Nova Scotia. An optimal level of support is provided to each individual based on their needs to ensure personal growth through all aspects of positive living.

  • The Youth We Serve

    • Youth with cognitive, psychological, emotional and/or social challenges.
    • Youth requiring support in a home environment with structure, supervision and safety.
    • Youth who experienced limited success within the Foster-Care System.
    • Youth previously involved with structured residential options who require support through the next steps of community reintegration.

    Intellectually and physically challenged adults

    Program Goals

    Supports provided are based on four fundamental goals. These goals guide the development of personal and program objectives for Community Options clients. 

    1.      To achieve optimum skills relative to individual abilities in the following areas:

    q       Social and interpersonal

    q       Functional living

    q       Educational

    q       Vocational

    2.      To improve personal decision making skills.

    3.      To improve sense of personal well being.

    4.      To develop positive personal relationships.

           (i.e. family, friends, and community)

     

    Program Benefits

    q       High level of structure, supervision and safety

    q       Community Options Team, Program Director, Program Leader, Residential Counsellors and access to Clinicians, Psychiatrist, Teacher and others.

    q       Youth Workers and Residential Rehabilitation Workers provide social, life skills, anger management and outdoor educational groups.

    q       Individual Program Plans based on needs and goals

    q       School Day Program supports youth experiencing difficulty in mainstream classrooms.

    q       Vocational opportunities offered through our community vocational centres.

    q       Multimedia technology learning resources.

    q       Partnership with families, agencies and community to ensure youth and adult success.
